Baptism
Baptism is a ‘Sacrament of Initiation’ and through baptism we become Christians and therefore members of the Catholic Church.
- At least one parent and one God-parent of the child must be a Roman Catholic
- The baptism of babies and children (usually under the age of 3 years) is undertaken on the understanding that the child will be instructed and brought up in the Catholic faith.
- Parents and God-parents are expected to bring their child to mass and ensure they receive a Catholic education.
- For information about the baptism of adults see the Journey in Faith information on this website
