Cyril Chaired the Meeting Fr Kevin opened the meeting by reading of the Gospel of Christ the King 1000. Apologies for absence:Marion Binks, Caroline Chung, Sr. Margaret, John Farrell. 1001. Approval of minutes of previous meeting.Minutes of the previous full meeting were approved. 1002. Matters arising not covered elsewhere on agenda.None1003. Parish Priests Report:Most recent information was delivered in the Parish Meeting. The Confirmation group were particularly successful this year and follow-up activities are still being considered. Youth Groups are not operating at present. The latest First Holy Communion Group has recently celebrated the Sacrament. This is an extra Mass on a Sunday afternoon for Fr Kevin. Parents are now encouraged to attend Mass weekly with their children during the preparation sessions. Oaklands have still not been able to appoint a chaplain. The post will now be readvertised, asking instead for a committed Catholic who may then progress to the role of Chaplain. Fr Kevin will arrange a meeting to ask if he, as a member of the clergy, could help until a chaplain is appointed, perhaps one day a week. New Church: the parish will still need to be run while all aspects of the new church are being planned. Also fundraising and the actual construction of the building could potentially make demands on Fr Kevin’s time. Groups within the parish will take some of these aspects on board, but Fr Kevin is aware that he may be more in demand. There are 11 people considering admission to the Catholic Church this year, all but two of whom, are under 40. Some of these are mothers who take children to St Peters and attend Sunday Mass with them. FR Kevin feels well and is excited at what lies ahead. 1004. Review of Parish Meeting:The attendance was down slightly on the previous year. Feedback was mostly that the Mass was well received and it was a good introduction to the meeting. It was asked who the members were of each committee. Next year, members should be named in the report and perhaps introduced at the meeting. Catechists could also be named. Also suggested, Martin Lewis could take photos of the committee members for display. The timing was considered appropriate, the length of the ‘business’ part of the meeting being about 30 minutes. 1005. CCS and Fundraising:A second meeting took the form of a presentation explaining fundraising in Waterlooville and also the parish commitment to the diocese Living in Faith appeal. The parish contribution to the parish appeal has been significantly reduced. The process is to approach 25-30 people to pledge amounts of money. This is repeated until the time is right to announce to the parish how much has already been raised and encourage other parishioners to join in. The presentation is a generic one but it has now been tailored to suit the parish by a group of committee members and looked at by Fr K. Photos by Martin Lewis will also be included in the presentation but this does need to be edited and cut down. The Living in faith appeal in the diocese is on hold except for four parishes which have capital projects underway: one of which is our parish, where it will be called Living in Faith, Waterlooville parish. Forward by Bishop, intro by Fr Kevin. Fr Kevin is meeting with CCS tomorrow. We have been allocated an ‘advisor’ for this parish and he has requested a weekly meeting with Fr Kevin and others. He has brought various other people to the meetings. The first activity takes place in two weeks. The campaign should start after Christmas, the initial training of teams and first pledges should be completed by Easter. Fr Kevin would like to pick a morning in January/February to have one Mass only and this would be followed by a procession to the land where the new church is to be built and then to dedicate the land. The diocesan press officer has been asked for advice how to advertise the new church, especially through the media. A name was suggested and will be passed on to Pat Binks. A further contact in radio was also suggested. Three focus groups: organ, liturgical, development and technical will be formed to advise on aspects of the new church. It is hoped a member of the PPC could attend as observers when they meet. 1006. Any Other Business.1006.1. Strengthening the PPC:Fr Kevin has approached Julie Long, a new Catholic last year, to come along to the next meeting. Present members were also asked to make suggestions of people they think may be suitable.
1006.2 Christmas Programme: EW and Parish secretary have met and have prepared a list for each Mass and people are invited to fill in their names next to a ‘slot’ so that the rota is created as people sign. This will replace the plans on the large notice board. It will allow gaps to be obvious. It is not known at the moment what the children’s Liturgy group are planning. They start at 4.15pm and must be cleared away by 5.30pm to allow preparation time for the 6.30pm Mass. This is the best attended of the Masses. People must not be allowed into the choir loft for safety reasons. It can be locked until Mass starts, then needs to be unlocked to be used as a fire exit if needed. Ushers could help with this. Fr Kevin is concerned that the administrative details run smoothly as it is very demanding to say four Masses. Welcomers must arrive in good time to distribute the appropriate leaflets for each Mass. These need to be clearly marked so that there is no confusion. Also need to consider time for Christmas morning Mass, as parking and exiting for 9.30am Mass can cause problems. Marshalls could help by encouraging people to exit via Hulbert Road. This can also be flagged up in the newsletter. There was a discussion about changes to Mass times, but it was felt it was too late to make major changes now, as times have been published.
1007. Date and Time of next meeting(s).4th December 2008 7pm (please bring ‘nibbles’), drinks will be provided. 15th January 2009 7pm 26th February 2009 7pm 23rd April 2009 7pm
Fr Kevin closed the meeting with a prayer and blessing. ***************************************************************************************
