Marriage Preparation Couples wishing to marry should, in the first instance, contact the Presbytery and arrange an appointment with the Priest. Slight differences in practical administrative arrangements exist dependent on whether one or both of the couple are Parishioners, whether they are both Catholic or indeed whether they are both Christian. These need to be discussed on a case by case basis. Normally at least six months notice of intention to marry is required in order to properly allow for preparation. Marriage preparation for the Parish is currently given by the accredited organisation 'Marriage Care'. In addition to its own materials Marriage Care make use of the internationally acclaimed, non-denominational FOCCUS programme to facilitate individualised preparation. This consists of a group session (usually in Portsmouth), an individual session for the couple, and a follow-up session after marriage. In addition the couple see the Parish Priest, who helps them with specific preparations for their marriage ceremony. Some more information on Marriage Care and the FOCCUS programme Click here
