Children's Liturgy The Children's Liturgy takes place at the 9:30 Mass on Sundays. The Liturgy takes place most Sundays except for during the schools' Summer Holiday. The Children's Liturgy is a version of the Penitential Rite and Liturgy of the Word targeted specifically at the younger parishioners. It takes place in the Day Centre while the "normal" Penitential Rite & Liturgy of the Word are happening in the Church. The children are asked to consider what they may have done during the last week that was "less than perfect" and say/sing a "sorry" prayer/song. They listen to the Gospel (and sometimes other readings) and then split into groups to conduct discussions/activities based on that Sunday's Gospel Reading & The Church Calendar. Typically different activities take place for the Pre-school & Reception children, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4 and those in Year 5 and above. Each activity is tailored to the age group and maturity of each group. The Children's Liturgy is not designed to be a crèche and there is no obligation on parents of young children to attend. Parents are asked to use their knowledge of their children to determine when a child has reached a level of maturity to allow them to fully benefit from the Liturgy in the Church and to select the most appropriate Liturgy accordingly. The Children's Liturgy group are always looking for new volunteers (parents, grandparents, teenagers, teachers etc.). At present we are particularly keen to hear from any keyboard player who could help us with the children's singing. The parish has an active Child Protection team and all volunteers working with children are subject to CRB checks. Adult Participation Parents of younger or "clingy" children (typically in the youngest group who can feel that they need their parent's presence) are welcome to come out to support their children. Such parents will be asked to complete a registration form so that we know why they are present. Special Event Liturgies The Children's Liturgy Group prepare and perform special dramatisations at both Easter and Christmas. These events are very popular and participation is open to all children of the Parish. The Children's Liturgy group can be contacted either after the 9:30 Mass by email or via the Presbytery. |
